A Value of Order

We all need a reset.

Life has been upside-down for a while now.  We have been reacting to situations beyond our control, trying to make sense and find our way forward.  We have new habits, new priorities, new struggles, new challenges, and new opportunities.

Spiritually, we need to reset--to find clear priorities and purpose.  The book of Colossians points us to a value of order that changes everything.

PRIORITIES AND JESUS

Priorities shape your life, your family, your present and your future.  Even small choices we make can impact so many areas of our lives.

Without priorities, it is likely that you will become frustrated, overwhelmed and feel like outside factors are controlling you rather than vice versa.

“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him.” Colossians 1:15-16 (NIV)

Basically, these verses tell us that Jesus is firstborn.  What does that mean?  It doesn’t mean Jesus was created.  It’s a word that refers to function.  It is a term of honor and dignity.  For example, every President’s wife is called the First Lady.  That title is given because of her rank and order.  Jesus is first because everything originated with Jesus.

“Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.”       John 1:3 (NIV)

That is how the world started and that is the way to start your day, your marriage, your relationships, your family, your school or business.  Put Jesus first.

IF JESUS IS THE ANSWER, WHAT ARE THE QUESTIONS?

Jesus is the answer, but it is one thing to have a list of priorities and another to live them out in daily life.  Where do we start?

“...He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So He is first in everything.”     Colossians 1:18b (NLT)

Jesus is the Sustainer, the Creator, Supreme, Savior, and He is God.  It is all about Jesus.

So what do we do? Here is my encouragement to you today--

ASK JESUS TO HELP YOU RESET

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

Here’s where we have to start. We come humbly before Jesus and say: Jesus, help me to put You first.  Show me what that means in my life.  What is out of alignment?  How do I order my values that You want me to have?

Turn to Jesus and ask His help with your reset.

THE BOTTOM LINE

You were created by God for God.  You are valuable and your life matters to God.  The fullness of God is in Jesus.  Nowhere else, but in Jesus.  Those who want more of God and all that He is, can find all in Jesus.  Rest in Him who is victorious over all.

Figure out how to take that life-changing step: Jesus First.
