Part 2: Accepting The Lie
IDENTITY: WHO ARE YOU?
PART - 2
1. GOD MADE US TO BE FREE FROM SHAME.
“Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.”
Genesis 2:25 (NIV)
“When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.”
Genesis 3:6-8 (NIV)
The longer we hide our brokenness, the longer shame rules over us and blinds us to our true identity.
2. GOD PROVIDES THE WAY OUT OF SHAME.
“But the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’”
Genesis 3:9 (NIV)
“The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.”
Genesis 3:21 (NIV)
3. SHAME IS DEFEATED WHEN IT IS EXPOSED BY THE LIGHT.
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.”
Ephesians 5:8-13 (NIV)
