Part 2: Adopted

CONQUERORS: ROMANS 8 - PART 2

Romans 8:12-17

“Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.”

Romans 8:12-14 (NLT)

“So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when He adopted you as His own children. Now we call Him, ‘Abba, Father.’ For His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are His children, we are His heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share His glory, we must also share His suffering.”

Romans 8:15-17 (NLT)

WHAT DO WE GET AS ADOPTED SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD?

  • We get God Himself.

“Whom have I in heaven but You? I desire You more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever.”

Psalm 73:25-26 (NLT)

  • We get a future.

“So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are His child, God has made you also an heir.”

Galatians 4:7 (NIV)

  • We get forgiveness.

“I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.”

1 John 2:12 (NLT)

  • We get a new identity.

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)
