Part 4: Authentic
THE CORE 5 – PART 4
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:19 (NIV)
“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’ He answered, ‘I heard You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
Genesis 3:8-10 (NIV)
“And He said, ‘Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?’ The man said, ‘The woman You put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.’”
Genesis 3:11-12 (NIV)
You won’t address what you don’t confess.
THREE THINGS BEING AUTHENTIC DOES IN YOUR LIFE:
1. BEING REAL WITH GOD – BRINGS FORGIVENESS.
“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’”
Luke 18:10-12 (NIV)
“But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’ I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Luke 18:13-14 (NLT)
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9 (NIV)
2. BEING REAL WITH YOURSELF – HELPS YOU CHANGE.
“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.”
1 John 1:8 (NIV)
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”
Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT)
3. BEING REAL WITH OTHERS – BRINGS HEALING AND SUPPORT.
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed…”
James 5:16a (NIV)
Secrets bring death and destruction.
