Part 1: Changing The Gravity In The Room

MASTERCLASS: THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT

David Vela – Area 2 Rep. Texas Baptists

PART 1

THE BEATITUDES IN THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT ARE…

1. A HIGHER CALLING TO LIVE BY.

2. A HIGHER POWER TO LIVE WITH.

3. A HIGHER PURPOSE TO LIVE FOR.

WHAT CAUSES A BROKEN HEART?

1. LOSS IN A RELATIONSHIP.

“Turn to me and have mercy, for I am alone and in deep distress.”

Psalm 25:16 (NLT)

  • When I feel alone, I can trust God’s presence.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Psalm 34:18 (NIV)

2. A LIFE CRISIS.

  • When life seems hopeless, God is my confidence!

“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I gave Egypt as a ransom for your freedom; I gave Ethiopia and Seba in your place.”

Isaiah 43:2-3 (NLT)

3. A BROKEN RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

“My life is exhausted from sorrow, my years from groaning. My strength staggers under the weight of my guilt, and my bones waste away.”

Psalm 31:10 (GW)

  • God also grieves when we are distant from Him.

“And don’t grieve God’s Holy Spirit. You were sealed by Him for the day of redemption.”

Ephesians 4:30 (HCSB)

  • Grief can lead us to repentance.

“For godly grief produces a repentance not to be regretted and leading to salvation, but worldly grief produces death.”

2 Corinthians 7:10 (HCSB)

  • When I need forgiveness God is compassionate!

Also read: Psalms 51:16-17, Psalms 32:5-7, John 21:17

I CAN REJOICE BECAUSE…

1. JESUS IS MY TRUE HOPE.

“We have also obtained access through Him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.…This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

Romans 5:2,5 (HCSB)

2. PRAYER IS POWERFUL.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

Romans 12:12 (NIV)

3. GOD IS FULFILLING A GREATER PURPOSE THRU ME.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)
