Part 3: Generosity in Serving Others
LEVEL UP: A GENEROUS LIFE
PART 3
Luke 9:57-10:9
1. WE ARE HERE TO SERVE OTHERS.
“After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place where He was about to go. He told them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.’” Luke 10:1-2 (NIV)
“Now go, and remember that I am sending you out as lambs among wolves.” Luke 10:3 (NLT)
“When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you. Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’” Luke 10:8-9 (NIV)
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
2. YOU CAN’T GIVE YOURSELF TO SERVE UNLESS YOU FIRST GIVE YOURSELF AWAY TO JESUS.
“As they were walking along the road, a man said to Him, ‘I will follow You wherever You go. ’Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.’” Luke 9:57-58 (NIV)
“He said to another man, ‘Follow Me.’ But he replied, ‘Lord, first let me go and bury my father.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.’ Still another said, ‘I will follow You, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.’ Jesus replied, ‘No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.’” Luke 9:59-62 (NIV)
3. A GENEROUS HEART MEANS YOU ARE GENEROUS IN GENERAL.
“‘Master,’ said John, ‘we saw someone driving out demons in Your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.’ ‘Do not stop him,’ Jesus said, ‘for whoever is not against you is for you.’” Luke 9:49-50 (NIV)
“As the time approached for Him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. And He sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for Him; but the people there did not welcome Him, because He was heading for Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, ‘Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?’ But Jesus turned and rebuked them.” Luke 9:51-55 (NIV)
