Part 3: Jacob's Prayer: When God Gets Real
CASE STUDIES IN PRAYER
PART 3
Genesis 32:22-31
1. YOU HAVE TO MEET GOD ALONE.
“This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a Man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break.” Genesis 32:24 (NLT)
Jacob and Esau – the back story.
God will intrude into your personal life.
2. YOU HAVE TO MEET GOD FOR BLESSING.
“When the Man saw that He would not win the match, He touched Jacob’s hip and wrenched it out of its socket. Then the Man said, ‘Let Me go, for the dawn is breaking!’ But Jacob said, “I will not let You go unless you bless me. The Man asked him, ‘What is your name?’ ‘Jacob,’ he answered.” Genesis 32:25-27 (NLT)
We are all looking for blessing.
It’s God Himself that is the blessing.
3. YOU MUST MEET GOD AT YOUR POINT OF
WEAKNESS.
“‘Please tell me Your name,’ Jacob said. ‘Why do you want to know My name?’ the Man replied. Then He blessed Jacob there. Jacob named the place Peniel (which means ‘face of God’), for he said, ‘I have seen God face to face, yet my life has been spared.’ The sun was rising as Jacob left Peniel, and he was limping because of the injury to his hip.” Genesis 32:29-31 (NLT)
“But He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.” Isaiah 53:5 (NLT)
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.’” Galatians 3:13 (NIV)
