Part 4: More Comfort

CHASING CARROTS – PART 4

1. WHAT CHASING COMFORT DOES IN YOUR LIFE:

  • It leads to complaining and being discontent.

“Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also wept again and said, ‘Oh that we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.’”

Numbers 11:4-5 (ESV)

“And say to the people, “Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, ‘Who will give us meat to eat? For it was better for us in Egypt.” Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat. You shall not eat just one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days, but a whole month, until it comes out at your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you, because you have rejected the Lord who is among you and have wept before Him, saying, “Why did we come out of Egypt?”

Numbers 11:18-20 (ESV)

  • You will say no to God because God will lead you out of comfort into faith.

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.”

Hebrews 11:6 (ESV)

2. CHASE WHAT IS AUTHENTIC:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (ESV)

  • Stress and pain are part of life that God uses to help you to grow.

“Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

James 1:2-4 (NASB)

  • You have a sense of eternity that cannot be fulfilled with temporary comfort.

“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for My sake, you will save it.”

Matthew 16:25 (NLT)

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
