Part 7: Prophecies and Visions

DANIEL – PART 7

Daniel 7-12

  • Daniel’s Main Goal: To show God’s power and presence in even the darkest times.

A SAMPLE PROPHECY (Daniel 7)

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel saw a dream and visions of his head as he lay in his bed. Then he wrote down the dream and told the sum of the matter.”

Daniel 7:1 (ESV)

“Daniel declared, ‘I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea. And four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another.’”

Daniel 7:2-3 (ESV)

“As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took His seat; His clothing was white as snow, and the hair of His head like pure wool; His throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire. A stream of fire issued and came out from before Him; a thousand thousands served Him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him; the court sat in judgment, the books were opened.”

Daniel 7:9-10 (ESV)

“So I approached one of those standing beside the throne and asked him what it all meant. He explained it to me like this:  These four huge beasts represent four kingdoms that will arise from the earth. But in the end, the holy people of the Most High will be given the kingdom, and they will rule forever and ever.”

Daniel 7:16-18 (NLT)

“Thus he said: ‘As for the fourth beast, there shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all the kingdoms, and it shall devour the whole earth, and trample it down, and break it to pieces.”

Daniel 7:23 (ESV)

  • 4 Beasts = 4 Kingdoms

  • What do all the prophecies in Daniel have in common? They all predict great trouble followed by God’s deliverance.

BIBLICAL PROPHECY LESSONS:

1.   PROPHECY HAS ONE MAIN PURPOSE: TO GIVE HOPE AND CONFIDENCE.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.  Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.”

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 (ESV)

2.    BUILD YOUR LIFE ON A STRONG FOUNDATION

Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”

Matthew 7:24-25 (ESV)

“And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

Matthew 7:26-27 (ESV)

  • We are all building a house.

  • Every house will face a storm

  • Storms reveal our foundation.
