Luke 2:8-14

1.  WE ALL LIVE IN FEAR.

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.” Luke 2:8 (NIV)

“And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. Luke 2:9 (ESV) 

“And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.’”   Luke 2:10 (ESV)

  • The root of our fear is being afraid of God and not trusting Him.

2.  THE SOLUTION: BEHOLD, A SAVIOR IS BORN.

“And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.’” Luke 2:10-11 (ESV)


“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! 


Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name.” Philippians 2:5-9 (NIV)

  • Give glory to Jesus as Lord.

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!”  Luke 2:13-14 (ESV)

“But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; You are my glory, the One who holds my head high.” Psalm 3:3 (NLT)

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire.’” Hebrews 12:28-29 (NIV)
