Part 3: The Family You Always Wanted
CONVERSATIONS IN THE STORM
PART 3
The theme of 1 Peter: In any situation we can respond like Jesus.
1. BASIC FAMILY GROUND RULES:
“Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and He will grant you His blessing.”
1 Peter 3:8-9 (NLT)
Live in harmony with each other.
Be sympathetic to each other.
Be tenderhearted to each other.
Be humble around each other.
Argue differently with each other.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13:34-35 (NIV)
2. HOW TO GET ALONG IN THE FAMILY:
“Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.”
1 Peter 3:10-11 (NIV)
If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all
“Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.”
Proverbs 12:18 (NLT)
Constantly turn away from evil and do good.
Be a creator of peace, not tension.
“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is Mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.”
Romans 12:17-19 (NIV)
“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
1 Peter 3:12 (NIV)
