Part 1: Creation

TELLING GOD’S STORY

PART - 1

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.”

John 1:1-3 (NIV)

“For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will—to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves.”

Ephesians 1:4-6 (NIV)

1. BEFORE THE CREATION, THERE WAS GOD.

“Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in Our image, to be like Us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.’”

Genesis 1:26 (NLT)

  • If all things come from God and we are made in His image:

A. Then we realize what is good and bad.

B. We find our meaning in Him.

2. GENESIS IS AN OVERVIEW OF THE LOVE OF GOD.

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”

1 John 4:7 (NIV)

“People who do not get along with others are interested only in themselves; they will disagree with what everyone else knows is right.”

Proverbs 18:1 (GNT)

  • We were created to live in love and community.

3. BEFORE CREATION, THERE WAS DARKNESS.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.”

Genesis 1:1-2 (NLT)

  • God brings order out of chaos.

  • God will one day redeem what sin destroyed.

“Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”

John 1:3-4 (NIV)

“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then He said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’”

Revelation 21:5 (NIV)
