Part 4: Doubt and Hope

PART - 4

  • What is doubt?

“Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him—but some of them doubted!”

Matthew 28:16-17 (NLT)

1. BARRIERS TO FAITH.

  • People

  • Proof

  • Pain

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Revelation 21:4 (NIV)

2. GIVE GOD THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT.

Benefit of the doubt - the place of accepting someone/something as deserving of trust even though there are doubts.

  • Start with Jesus.

“So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son...No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is Himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.”

John 1:14, 18 (NLT)

  • Be humble.

“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.’”

Isaiah 55:8 (NLT)

“Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. ‘Peace be with you,’ He said. Then He said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and look at My hands. Put your hand into the wound in My side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!’ ‘My Lord and my God!’ Thomas exclaimed. Then Jesus told him, ‘You believe because you have seen Me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing Me.’”

John 20:26-29 (NLT)
