Part 1: Hope Has A Name

CHRISTMAS SERIES: THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS

PART 1

“For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)

1. WONDERFUL COUNSELOR - WISDOM.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” John 10:11 (NIV)

2. MIGHTY GOD - POWER

“Then He got into the boat and His disciples followed Him.  Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke Him, saying, Lord, save us! We’re going to drown! He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him!’” Matthew 8:23-27 (NIV)

3. EVERLASTING FATHER - GOD.

“‘I and the Father are one.’ Again His Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone Him, but Jesus said to them, ‘I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone Me?’ ‘We are not stoning you for any good work,’ they replied, ‘but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.’” John 10:30-34 (NIV)

4. PRINCE OF PEACE - SALVATION.

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NIV)

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!” Romans 5:8-10 (NIV)

WHAT SHOULD BE OUR RESPONSE:

  • Worship - I see how big God is, how good
                    hope is, and how
    small I am.

About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.” Acts 16:25 (NIV)

When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.” Matthew 26:30 (NIV)

Suddenly a great army of heaven's angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God: ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom He is pleased!’” Luke 2:13-14 (GNT)

  • Be Grateful – I see every moment, every breath, every thing as a gift from God.
