Part 2: Wonderful Counselor
CHRISTMAS SERIES: THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS
PART 2
“For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over His kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.” Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV)
Wonderful Counselor - means Jesus came for people with problems who need direction.
“Therefore, since we have a great High Priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have One who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16 (NIV)
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5 (NIV)
HOW WE MUST APPROACH THE
WONDERFUL COUNSELOR
1. YOU HAVE TO BE REAL AND HONEST WITH HIM.
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.” Psalm 139:23 (NIV)
God’s not going to change your life
without changing you.
2. YOU HAVE TO WANT TO BE HEALED.
“One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, He asked him, ‘Do you want to get well?”’ John 5:5-6 (NIV)
Do you really want God to change your life?
3. YOU HAVE TO DO WHATEVER JESUS ASKS.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” James 1:5-7 (NIV)
Do you really trust Him enough to do what He says?
