Part 3: Jude: Truth In A World Of Lies

ONE HIT WONDERS

PART 3

THEME: To encourage Christians to stand strong in the faith and fight for the truth.

1. THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL: SOMETHING WORTH FIGHTING FOR.

“Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James, To those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance. Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.”

Jude 1:1-3 (NIV)

  • It has been once for all delivered to believers.

“Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (NIV)

2. FALSE TEACHERS: WOLVES IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING.

“For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.”

Jude 1:4 (NIV)

  • They usually redefine morality and Jesus.

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”

John 14:6 (NIV)

3. HOW TO RESPOND TO THOSE LED ASTRAY.

“Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.”

Jude 1:22-23 (NIV)

  • For those who doubt: Be merciful.

  • For those trapped in sin: Help them.

“But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.”

Jude 1:20-21 (NIV)
