Part 5: Life With A Compass
PSALMS - PART 5
PSALM 1
You have the basics you need to grow spiritually--if you are tightly connected to other Christians and the Word of God.
1. THE POWER OF THE CROWD.
“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.”
Psalm 1:1 (NLT)
Associate with everyone. Hang out with those who make you better.
“Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.”
Proverbs 13:20 (NLT)
Key Question: Who do I turn to for advice?
2. THE POWER OF THE COMPASS.
A good heart with a bad compass will take you to the wrong place every time.
“Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.”
Proverbs 12:15 (NLT)
“But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.”
Psalm 1:2 (NLT)
“These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.”
1 Corinthians 10:11 (NLT)
3. THE BLESSED LIFE.
“They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly. For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.”
Psalm 1:3-6 (NLT)
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?...will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:35, 39b (ESV)
“Therefore encourage each other and build each other up…”
1 Thessalonians 5:11a (NIV)
