Part 2: More Approval
CHASING CARROTS – PART 2
THREE QUESTIONS TO DIAGNOSE A PEOPLE-PLEASER:
1. Do you spend a lot of time worrying about people’s impression of you?
2. Are you over-committed because you can’t say no to anyone?
3. Do you crave compliments?
“The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that.”
Proverbs 29:25 (MSG)
“Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”
Galatians 1:10 (NLT)
WHAT CHASING PEOPLE’S APPROVAL DOES IN YOUR LIFE:
1. YOU WILL DEFINE YOURSELF BASED ON WHAT OTHERS THINK.
“Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in Him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.”
John 12:42-43 (ESV)
2. YOU WILL PUT THE APPROVAL OF PEOPLE ABOVE THE APPROVAL OF GOD.
“For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts...As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.”
1 Thessalonians 2:4, 6 (NLT)
God is always watching.
“O LORD, You have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. You go before me and follow me. You place Your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!”
Psalm 139:1-6 (NLT)
You are God’s child.
“For You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well.”
Psalm 139:13-14 (ESV)
You are God’s greatest investment.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.”
1 John 3:1 (NIV)
Being obsessed with what people think of you makes you forget about what God thinks of you.
MY NEXT STEP TODAY IS TO:
Ask God to set me free from an obsession to please others.
Make sure God’s approval is what matters most in my life.
Commit my life to Jesus Christ and follow Him.
