Part 1: More Treasures

CHASING CARROTS – PART 1

“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT)

1. WHAT CHASING AFTER OTHER TREASURES DOES IN YOUR LIFE:

  • It creates discontentment.

“Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

Philippians 4:11-13 (NLT)

  • It causes consumerism.

“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”

Hebrews 13:5 (ESV)

“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Matthew 6:31-33 (ESV)

  • What are you chasing after in your life?

2. EMBRACE JESUS WHO IS THE BREAD OF LIFE.

“Jesus answered them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on Him God the Father has set His seal.’”

John 6:26-27 (ESV)

“Then they said to Him, ‘What must we do, to be doing the works of God?’ Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.’”

John 6:28-29 (ESV)

“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst.”

John 6:35 (ESV)

  • Will you treasure Jesus?

“And He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’”

Matthew 22:37 (ESV)
