Part 1: Praying Our Doubts and Confusion

PSALMS OF SUMMER

PART 1

Psalms 73:1-3, 12-26

1.  WHY DO WE HAVE DOUBT?

“Truly God is good to Israel, to those whose hearts are pure. But as for me, I almost lost my footing. My feet were slipping, and I was almost gone. For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness.” Psalms 73:1-3 (NLT)

  • Doubt can happen to anybody.

“Philip found Nathanael and told him, ‘We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’ ‘Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?’ Nathanael asked. ‘Come and see,’ said Philip.” John 1:45-46 (NIV)

2.  HOW DO WE FACE DOUBT?

“For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.” Psalms 73:3 (NIV)

“Did I keep my heart pure for nothing?  Did I keep myself innocent for no reason?  I get nothing but trouble all day long; every morning brings me pain.”  Psalms 73:13-14 (NLT)

For we live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

3. WHAT IF I AM STUCK IN DOUBT?

  • Doubt your doubts.

For I envied the proud when I saw them prosper despite their wickedness.”  Psalms 73:3 (NLT)

  • Enter the sanctuary.

Then I went into Your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked.” Psalms 73:17 (NLT)

  • Compare life foundations.

But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold.” Psalms 73:2 (NLT)

Whom have I in heaven but You? I desire You more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever.” Psalms 73:25-26 (NLT)

  • Know that Jesus never lets you go.

“I was so foolish and ignorant–I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.  Yet I still belong to You; You hold my right hand.” Psalms 73:22-23 (NLT)
