Part 7: Gentleness
Refresh: what the world needs now
PART 7
“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Galatians 5:13-14 (NLT)
“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” Galatians 5:16 (NLT)
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)
Gentleness - power under control.
1. GENTLENESS WILL MAKE YOU STAND OUT FOR THE RIGHT REASONS.
“Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand.” Philippians 4:5 (ESV)
Let your reasonableness be known:
By your response to unreasonableness.
By how you handle conflict.
2. SHOW GENTLENESS BY HOW YOU SPEAK TO PEOPLE AND HOW YOU LISTEN.
“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” James 1:19 (NIV)
“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29 (NIV)
What does your world need from you?
“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians 4:1-2 (NIV)
