Singing on the Rollercoaster
Easter is a time to reflect on God's sacrifice and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, while also expressing gratitude through worship! Leading up to Easter during Holy Week can be a rollercoaster of emotions. Starting off with Jesus’ entry and the people shouting HOSANNA, then leading into the Lord’s Supper, where Jesus tells His disciple what’s about to take place.
Then Jesus gets arrested, taken, and crucified…or what we call “Good Friday”. However, nothing really seems “good” about a loss of a friend and is often a time centered around grief and confusion. But it’s good to note that Jesus fulfills His every promise.
But maybe if you're like me, you ask often, why the rollercoaster? Why the let downs and pains of life? Many might say the lament in Psalm 137, “How do we sing in a strange land like this”, after being held captive and mocked? Many of you are on that rollercoaster right now!
Some of you might even say - “Actually, I don’t even want to worship.” Well, sometimes I am right there with you. What I love most about the Easter story is that it starts with us shouting HOSANNA which means “Pray, save us”. And the season ends with us rejoicing about Jesus’ resurrection.
This reminds me of how in Revelation, we will sing “the song of Moses” in heaven which is a song of deliverance! What a beautiful parallel of when we cry out to God, He saves us. So as you see, He is faithful.
So my prayer for you is that in spite of your situation, there is hope for the future. We sing not just at the beginning but in the middle as well, because we know the ending song. So during Easter, whether you are shouting HOSANNA, or you are in the middle of your storm…Sing.
“He WANTS your fellowship, and He has done everything possible to make it a reality. He has forgiven your sins, at the cost of His own dear Son. He has given you His Word, and the priceless privilege of prayer and worship.” - Billy Graham
