Fear vs. Faith: The Battle for a Comeback

Setbacks seem normal lately.  Delta Covid, the sluggish economy, you can’t get a replacement part, you can’t get something shipped on time, and the list goes on.

Our hope can struggle.  Our answer?

But God.

We serve a God that cares about our struggles and our pain.  He also wants you to believe and trust in Him in the middle of a setback.  God can with great power and speed totally rearrange what is happening in your life.  He can connect you with the right people and totally change your life in an instant.

Every Setback Is A Setup For A Comeback

“Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!  Many are saying of me, ‘God will not deliver him.’ But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lord, and He answers me from His holy mountain.’” Psalm 3:1-4 (NIV)

Just like God answered David who wrote those words in scripture, God will answer you.  We just need to be prepared to listen and expect an answer.

The battlefield is faith vs. fear.  Over and over in the Bible the phrase is repeated by God to us: Fear not.  Fear not.  Fear not.

“But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.  I praise God for what He has promised.  I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?”

Psalm 56:3-4a (NLT)

Notice God hasn’t changed David’s situation; but David has found an anchor—the promises of God.  Not based on what we think WE can do, but on what GOD has promised to do.  That is why there is such confidence in David’s statement.  He believes God will do what He said.

So, here’s the question for you: Do you believe God will do what He said?

How’s Your Battle With Fear In Your Setback?

I do not know what setback you might be facing right now, or what fear is holding you back or what anxiety is keeping you up at night and is gnawing at your heart.

But I do know this: If you will surrender your life completely to God each day and find your hope in the promises of God—you will move toward your comeback, and you’ll move out of your setback.

Refocus Your Trust in God

Here is a prayer that helps me when I am in a faith vs. fear battle: “God, I surrender my life completely to You, including the things that are scaring me, including the things that have me worried and anxious.  I give all this to You, I surrender it all to You.  I want to fill my life with faith not fear.  Please give me a sense of peace, power, and Your presence.  Amen.”
