Part 3: Praying Not to Forget

PSALMS OF SUMMER

PART 3

Psalm 103:1-22

1.  WHY DO WE NEED TO REMEMBER?

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits–.” Psalm 103:1-2 (NIV)

  • It all depends on what you–remember.

We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ Then you can tell them, ‘They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant went across.’ These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever.” Joshua 4:6-7 (NLT)

  • When we remember–it helps us trust God in the present.

2.  WHAT IS THE REAL PROBLEM OF WHY WE FORGET?

Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name.” Psalm 103:1 (NLT)

3.  WHAT DO WE HAVE TO REMEMBER SPIRITUALLY?

He does not punish us for all our sins; He does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. For His unfailing love toward those who fear Him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” Psalm 103:10-12 (NLT)

  • We forget the Gospel.

All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on Him the sins of us all.” Isaiah 53:6 (NLT)

  • We forget to be thankful.

“But for those who honor the Lord, His love lasts forever, and His goodness endures for all generations.” Psalm 103:17 (GNT)

He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!”  Psalm 103:3-5 (NLT)

The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.” Psalm 103:8 (NLT)
