Part 4: Praying Real
PSALMS OF SUMMER
PART 4
Psalm 32:1-11
1. WHY DO I NEED CONFESSION?
“Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.” Psalm 32:1 (NIV)
Blessed - deep fulfillment for the forgiven.
“Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” Luke 7:47 (ESV)
Everybody has a problem with guilt and shame.
2. THE PATH OF CONFESSION.
Decide if your guilt is true or false.
“Finally, I confessed all my sins to You and stopped trying to hide my guilt…” Psalm 32:5a (NLT)
Learn to hate your sin and not just the consequences.
“Finally, I confessed all my sins to You and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, ‘I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.’ And You forgave me! All my guilt is gone.” Psalm 32:5 (NLT)
“The Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control.’” Psalm 32:8-9 (NLT)
Take personal responsibility.
“Then I acknowledged my sin to You and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’ And You forgave the guilt of my sin.” Psalm 32:5 (NIV)
3. WHAT IS THE BASIS FOR CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS?
“Finally, I confessed all my sins to You and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, ‘I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.’ And You forgave me! All my guilt is gone.” Psalm 32:5 (NLT)
“Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit.” Psalm 32:1-2 (NIV)
“For You are my hiding place; You protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory.” Psalm 32:7 (NLT)
“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV)
Two kinds of people:
-I’m pretty good. I don’t need to be forgiven.
-I’m pretty bad. I’m too bad to be forgiven.
