Part 2: Saying Goodbye To Bad Habits

ANCHOR HABITS

PART - 2

“I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate...I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.”

Romans 7:15, 19 (NLT)

A FAITH THAT COUNTERS MY BAD HABITS

1. KNOW WHAT MAKES ME VULNERABLE.

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”

Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)

2. LEARN MY PATTERNS.

“The prudent understand where they are going, but fools deceive themselves.”

Proverbs 14:8 (NLT)

  • When am I most tempted?

  • Where am I most tempted?

  • Who is with me when I’m most tempted?

  • How do I feel right before I’m tempted?

3. ENLIST ONE FRIEND TO SHARE MY STRUGGLE.

“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NLT)

  • Join a group for support.

“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.”

Hebrews 10:25 (NLT)

4. PUT UP BOUNDARIES.

“Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.”

Proverbs 4:26-27 (NLT)

5. ASK GOD FOR HELP.

“Then call on Me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give Me glory.”

Psalm 50:15 (NLT)

“This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Hebrews 4:15-16 (NLT)

“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.”

James 1:12 (NLT)
