Part 4: The Path to Prayer

PRACTICING THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

PART 4

Psalm 1

THE PRACTICE OF BIBLICAL MEDITATION AND PRAYER

1.  THE PROMISE OF BLESSEDNESS.

But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” Psalm 1:2-3 (NLT)

  • Blessedness - absolute well-being.

  • Biblical meditation - patient pondering.

“The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.” Psalm 1:4 (ESV)

  • We can be like a tree or chaff.

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.” Psalm 1:1 (NIV)

2.  HOW DO WE ACTUALLY DO BIBLICAL MEDITATION

  • Biblical meditation is the bridge to prayer.

“But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.” Psalm 1:2 (NLT)

  • Biblical meditation is taking God’s truth and working it into your heart so it is real.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” Psalm 103:1-2 (ESV)

  • The method of Biblical meditation - ask questions.

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” Joshua 1:8 (NLT)
